Quindici artisti internazionali esplorano l’automobile virtuale, ivi intesa come mezzo e messaggio, tecnologia e status symbol, interfaccia e protesi. Frutto di appropriazione e remix, queste opere si collocano all’intersezione tra narrazione e documentazione, performance e simulazione, videoarte e cinema sperimentale.

DESCRIPTION

TRAVELOGUE is a survey of audiovisual artworks made with or inspired by video games. Using machinima and interactive installations, fifteen artists examine the virtual automobile as medium, message, technological commodity, status symbol, interface, and prosthetics. Created through a process of appropriation and remix, these works lie at the intersection of fiction and documentation, performance and simulation, video art and experimental cinema.

This book is an extended catalogue of the exhibition TRAVELOGUE curated by Matteo Bittanti in September 2016 in Mantua, Italy, as part of Festivaletteratura 2016.

L’AUTORE

Matteo Bittanti è un un artista, scrittore, curatore, editore e accademico. La sua ricerca accademica verte principalmente sugli aspetti culturali, sociali e teorici delle tecnologie emergenti. Studia l'interazione tra la visual culture, l'arte contemporanea e i new media. Investiga, in particolare, il rapporto tra arte e videogame. Bittanti insegna media studies alla IULM di Milano, dove coordina anche un Master of Arts in Game Design. Vive a San Francisco e a Milano.

THE AUTHOR

Matteo Bittanti is an artist, writer, curator, publisher, translator, and scholar. His academic research focuses on the cultural, social, and theoretical aspects of emerging technologies, with an emphasis on their effects on communication, visual culture, and the arts. He is particularly interested in new media art, especially Game Art. Bittanti teaches Media Studies at IULM University, in Milan, where he is also the Program Manager of the M.A. in Game Design. He lives in San Francisco and Milan.
